BAKERSFIELD,
CALIFORNIA (April 11, 2012)
– Derek Thorn will climb back aboard Bob Bruncati's Sunrise Ford #6
this Saturday night when the NASCAR K&N Pro Series, West invades
Havasu 95 Speedway in Arizona for the "Toyota/NAPA 150".
Thorn is riding a wave of success after a fifth place finish in the
season opener at Phoenix International Speedway last month, and a
second place finish for Byron Campbell Motorsports in the SPEARS SRL
Southwest Tour at Stockton last Saturday.
The gritty low-banked surface of Havasu 95 Speedway will pose a
serious challenge for the K&N series regulars this Saturday; however
Thorn had a successful test session already at the speedway to give
the Sunrise Ford team a "leg-up" on the competition.
Track position and qualifying will be critical and Thorn feels
confident he can capture some more of his qualifying magic that he
possesses this weekend. Thorn claimed seven consecutive fast-times
in the 2011 SPEARS SRL Southwest Tour and has a fifth place
qualifying average in his last eight NASCAR K&N Pro Series attempts.
Thorn has gained a new perspective on championship racing after
coming close throughout his career. His 2012 goals include
championship efforts in both the K&N West and SRL.
"Championship
racing is a tough deal," Thorn said. "You have to put it together
each race. I'm such a competitive person so it's taken me a long
time to grasp that concept. Having great people around me like owner
Bob Bruncati and veteran crewchief Bill Sedgwick are helping me keep
that focus”.
Derek Thorn would like to thank the following sponsors for their
support in 2012: Sunrise Ford, Lucas Oil, Eibach Springs, Four Star
Fruit, Hronis Racing, Joe’s Racing Products, Oakley, and PepperJack
Kennels.
