ROSEVILLE,
CA (4-16-11)
– Superior Crankshaft Racing and driver Derek Thorn of
Lakeport are locked and loaded for the second event in their first
full season together in the SPEARS SRL Southwest Tour Series as it
heads into
Northern California. The action packed .333 mile All American
Speedway in
Roseville
is the next battle field for Thorn and the competitive Superior
Crankshaft #26 Toyota.
As he enters the
"World's Champion Hand Cleaner 140" at the Placer County
Fairgrounds, Thorn is currently sitting in third place in the
current SPEARS SRL championship point standings. One event is
complete in the 10-race regional stock car series that competes on
asphalt ovals in the southwestern region of the
United States
including tracks in California, Utah and Nevada.
In addition to
sponsoring Thorn, Superior Crankshaft is the “Official Crankshaft"
of the SPEARS SRL Southwest Tour Series. In addition to the
‘Winner’s Bonus’ award of $1000 Superior Crankshaft awards $100
product certificates to the second, seventh and tenth place teams at
each SRL event. The Irvine, California based company is committed to
one of stock car racing's most competitive tours and is now
supporting one of the most talented drivers within it.
On April 2, Thorn
drove the Superior Crankshaft #26 from deep in the field to finish
third in the "Spears Manufacturing 111" at the Bullring in Vegas.
The forward charge clearly illustrated both the talent and passion
that Thorn possesses as well as the quality of equipment he is
aboard with the support of Superior Crankshaft and crew chief Junior
Joiner.
As he enters the
Roseville
event, Thorn sits just five championship points behind second place
Jim Pettit II in the standings. He is only 15 points out of the lead
which is held by Vegas winner M.K. Kanke. At this time, Thorn is
sitting right where he left off in 2010, when he finished third in
the series ending point standings.
In the last SPEARS
SRL event at
Roseville
last October, Thorn placed 11th in the field while driving for a
different team. Superior Crankshaft celebrated the Pocket Radar 100
in victory lane when veteran driver Eric Holmes of Escalon strapped
into their cockpit for the night.
"Roseville is going
to be a lot of fun," said Thorn. "With Superior Crankshaft, Sigma
Engineering, and Joiner Motorsports behind me there's no reason we
won’t be the car to beat.
The upcoming
"World's Champion Hand Cleaner 140" will be an event that is highly
recognized as it will take place in conjunction with the NASCAR K&N
Pro Series West Tour. Thorn is racing a limited number of events in
the NASCAR campaign this year. However, at this time he does not
have an entry in the division at Roseville unless an open seat
becomes available prior to race day which would permit him to race
in both events and maintain his current third place status in the
NASCAR West series as well.
Action will begin
at All American Speedway in Roseville with practice on Friday, April
15th followed by the World' Champion Hand Cleaner 140" on Saturday
night with the green flag scheduled to wave at 6:35 p.m. Thorn
currently has 130 asphalt starts, a total of 77 top five finishes,
106 top ten placements and has earned fast time a total of 47 times.
In addition to the
title sponsorship of Superior Crankshaft, Derek Thorn carries a
great deal of support from a number of marketing partners in the
2011 SRL Spears Southwest Tour. Among the many contributors are Joe
Gibbs Driven, Sigma Engineering, Joiner Motorsports, JRI Shocks,
Joe's Racing Products, ARP Bodies, Finishline Signs, PepperJack
Kennels, Fastenal and Encore Metals.
