BAKERSFIELD,
CALIFORNIA (February 18, 2013)
– Derek Thorn's #6 Sunrise Ford, owned by Bob Bruncati, will carry
the sponsorship of Road Safety, Inc. as it competes in the inaugural
UNOH Battle at the Beach at Daytona International Speedway on
Tuesday. Thorn carries a locked-in starting position for the 150
lap event on a temporary four-tenths of a mile oval.
The logos of Road Safety, Inc. will adorn the hood on Thorn's blue
and orange Ford during live coverage of the event on SPEED. Road
Safety is based in Rocklin, CA and offers a variety of services to
the road construction industry including flagging, road closures,
detours, and other forms of traffic control.
Thorn earned his starting position on the strength of wins at Havasu
95 Speedway and NAPA Speedway during the 2012 NASCAR K&N Pro Series,
West and Daytona will mark the kick-off to his 2013 campaign with
Sunrise Ford.
“To be going to Daytona is a huge opportunity for our Sunrise
Ford/Road Safety Inc. Team. Daytona will kick off our 2013 season
and will be a great time for our entire crew," Thorn said. "They’ve
put a lot of time and energy into our Daytona car and I’m really
excited to see where we stack up with the rest of the country. With
Road Safety Inc. now onboard for Daytona we are geared up to really
turn some heads on the East Coast.”
Not only will Road Safety Inc. and owner Jason Bamberg support Thorn
at Daytona, Bamberg is part-owner of the Eclipse Racing Driver
Development Team that will field NASCAR Modifieds and Late Models at
All American Speedway in 2013. Young drivers from across the
country will drive for Eclipse and the opportunity to align with a
major K&N program such as Thorn's is a great one for Eclipse Racing.
“Modifieds and Late Models are an important part of any young
driver's career and teaming up with Eclipse Racing to be a driver
coach is a lot of fun," Thorn said. "Modifieds and Late Models were
a huge part of my asphalt racing career and its great getting to
help out young kids trying to move their way up the racing ladder."
"I raced against Eclipse Racing's Jay Linstroth growing up and
learned a lot from him! He’s a great guy to have in house as a
teammate for any young up and comer's career.”
Drivers from all over the world will descend on Daytona this week
for the event that pits NASCAR K&N Pro Series East and West regulars
together. Thorn was third quickest in Monday's lone practice
session as one of the few cars to crack into the 19 second bracket.
On Tuesday, the K&N cars will practice from 2:05-3:45 p.m. local
time with 25 lap qualifying races slated for 5:40 p.m. The 150 lap
"Battle at the Beach" goes green at 8:30 p.m. with live coverage on
SPEED and Motor Racing Network as well.
