IRVINE, CALIFORNIA
(February 18, 2011) – Derek Thorn, pole sitter at the 2011 TOYOTA All-Star
Showdown, will look to continue his hot streak in the NASCAR K&N Pro
Series, by competing in the “3 Amigos Organic Blanco 100” at Phoenix
International Raceway on February 24th.
Thorn will be
driving the #44 Four Star Fruit/Hronis Racing/Superior Crankshaft
Chevrolet for Byron Campbell Motorsports, the same car he drove to
the career-defining pole position and seventh place finish in the
prestigious TOYOTA All-Star Showdown less than a month ago. Crew
Chief Junior Joiner will again return to the helm of the highly
capable team.
“Racing at Phoenix
has always been something I’ve really wanted,” Thorn said. “To
finally have the chance is a dream come true! I owe a lot of thanks
to Byron Campbell and his entire crew. Junior Joiner and I have had
a lot of success on the track together and were ready to continue
that success at Phoenix.”
The car Thorn will
be driving was campaigned by Vision Airlines in the November 2010
edition of this race with a top-ten qualifying effort. Thorn’s
efforts will be under watchful eyes from the NASCAR Sprint Cup
garages as this race is being held during the NASCAR events at the
fast paced one-mile oval.
“I am looking
forward with great anticipation to this race,” Superior Crankshaft
CEO Cheryl Archer said. “Although this is Derek’s first time at PIR,
his driving ability and confidence will make him one to watch for on
race day!”
This race at
Phoenix will be Thorn’s debut at the track in the valley of the sun;
however Thorn has one mile track experience and qualified seventh at
the one-mile New Hampshire Motor Speedway in 2008 in the NASCAR K&N
Pro Series, East.
“Anything less than
a top-five finish and a car in contention for the win would be a
disappointment after the strong showing we had at the showdown and
Derek’s success in the SRL Southwest Tour,” SP Marketing Manager
Marty Melo said. “Bryon Campbell has put together a great team and
everyone involved is working hard to keep the right people around
Derek to help continue his success”
Derek Thorn is
slated to challenge for the 2011 SRL SPEARS Southwest Tour
championship with Superior Crankshaft as his primary sponsor. Thorn
is also planning to compete in select K&N Pro Series events beyond
the Phoenix race.
Derek Thorn is
being supported by: Four Star Fruit, Superior Crankshaft, Hronis
Racing, Joiner Motorsports, and JRI Shocks. Potential sponsors can
